General Context & History

Initial History

The Republic of Sardinia as it is now known was initially formed on December 14th 1702, when revolutionaries overthrew the puppet monarch installed by The Kingdom of France and installed a new democratic government which still serves the public to this day. It initially had no military to speak of and as such with help from allies such as The United Kingdom and Prussia it eventually had a small yet effective military force. It expanded quickly and took over the islands of Corsica and made colonies in modern day Libya. These territories remain under its control today.

Sardinian Armoured Corps History

After the First World War which lasted from 1914 to 1918, the Republic of Sardinia which allied itself with the U.K & France began to invest and investigate into the idea of having a fully independent armoured wing of its army which was sorely lacking any flexibility. This interest with the rise of motorisation in armies beginning to show its face it was decided, that on July 22nd 1921 at 1400 Hours, that the "Sardinian Armoured Cavalry Corps" would be formed. The name was changed in and around 1934 as cavalry was totally phased out of combat duties in the armed forces. The Armoured Corps consisted of 2 Regiments (which will be mentioned in vehicle descriptions).

Sardinian Armoured Vehicle MK I Lion MBT

SRAV MK I Lion MBT

The Sardinian Republic Armoured Vehicle (SRAV) Mk One or Lion as it was known was the Main battle tank of Sardinian Republic.

The SRAV MK I or "Lion" as it has been designated was designed in the early 1970's to supplement and rejuvenate a dying sardinian armoured wing of the Sardinian Armed Forces. The armoured regiments at the time the "1st Sardinian Guard Dragoons" and The "3rd Sardinian Hussars" had been struggling to keep their current fleet of WW2 armoured vehicles combat capable due to lack of any spare parts and an increasing move by communist parties to de-fund the Armed Forces. The Lion was a last ditch effort to produce an armoured vehicle which was capable enough to defeat most of the Russian armour or Russian influenced armour, they may come up against, and most importantly to remain cheap. The Lions design process began on April 13th 1971 and continued with basic tests until June 27th 1973. The Lion proved extremely successful in its tests showing excellent reliability and decent all round characteristics. It was immediately thrown into production and service by September 3rd 1973. It continued to serve until 1995 with the Sardinian Armed Forces. But the last lion taken out of service was an export version known as the SRAV Lion MKIE. Which served in the Brazilian Armed Forces till 2016. https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/1875201186860799888/7B1C0BB79F905062EDD642B4C5FC4A9B38EE2CCD/?imw=256&&ima=fit&impolicy=Letterbox&imcolor=%23000000&letterbox=false

Sardinian Armoured Vehicle MK II Tigermoth RV

SRAV MK II Tigermoth Recon Vehicle

The SRAV MK II or "Tigermoth" as it has been designated was designed in the early 1970's to supplement and rejuvenate a dying sardinian armoured wing of the Sardinian Armed Forces. The armoured regiments at the time the "1st Sardinian Guard Dragoons" and The "3rd Sardinian Hussars" had been struggling to keep their current fleet of WW2 armoured vehicles combat capable due to lack of any spare parts and an increasing move by communist parties to defund the Armed Forces. The Tigermoth was designed to work in tandem with the Lion, acting as a forward scout capable of high speeds and previously unbelievable mobility. The tigermoth was designed on January 15th 1973 as the design for the lion was being finalised. It was tested and completed its design phase by March 25th 1975. It was immediately put into production and was sent to each regiment to bolster ranks. The Tigermoth remained in service until August 2nd 2004, when it was finally taken out of service. The tigermoth was not a popular export vehicle due to its thin armour and light gun meaning that export versions quickly fell out of service. https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/1875201186860822465/E16EF1A2B1B78A63383D727AE1596C3DAAC16D10/?imw=256&&ima=fit&impolicy=Letterbox&imcolor=%23000000&letterbox=false

Sardinian Armoured Vehicle MK III Thunderer

SRAV MK III Thunderer SPG

The SRAV MK III or "Thunderer" as it has been designated was designed in the early 1980's to supplement and rejuvenate a dying sardinian armoured wing of the Sardinian Armed Forces. The Thunderer was designed as a mobile Self Propelled Gun to be used to provide precision infantry support. It was designed in the early 80's to help replace the more conventional but old towed cannons from WW2 which were proving to be to difficult to move and expensive to repair and make. The Thunderer boasts at its time a huge 150mm Howitzer used to reign down hell on their enemies. It is still in service today after being refit multiple times with new systems. https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/1875201186860888253/8DE65FF1584A2AC3D231915C59A15E3DF149262D/?imw=256&&ima=fit&impolicy=Letterbox&imcolor=%23000000&letterbox=false
